Real Madrid slip up against Real Sociedad in 3-1 loss
Second Half
With center-back Jesus Vallejo sent off for a handball in the penalty area, Zidane moved defensive midfielder Casemiro into the back four.
Playing a man down was no easy task, especially for a Real Madrid that has struggled defensively this season as well as offensively.
Real Sociedad ran rampage against Madrid whose sole option was to try and counter. With a well-balanced formation, Sociedad had plenty of chances striking the post a few times too.
La Real doubled their tally with a goal from right-back Joseba Zaldúa to make it 2-1 on the night. Zaldúa made his way up the right wing to receive a lofted ball from the left side. The defender leaped over Marcelo heading the ball over Courtois and right under the crossbar. The Belgian lost his footing unable to back peddle and keep the ball from the rippling the net.
Just 10 minutes later Sociedad added the final nail in the coffin. Ander Barrenetxea picked up the ball inside the box which came off the post, to score the third of the match. The 17-year-old is part of Sociedad’s B team and has now scored his first goal with the senior side.
Zidane made use of all three of his substitutions but none able to make a solid impact on the game. Vincius Jr. was a sight for sore eyes as he did his best dribbling up the wing taking a couple of shots but none testing the keeper.
