Despite showing fantastic potential with dazzling performances throughout his loan spell at Dutch side Vitesse, it appears the wonder-kid, Martin Ødegaard is set for yet another loan spell.
Since joining Real Madrid as a sixteen-year-old in 2015 and having made just a singular competitive appearance for Los Blancos, Martin Ødegaard is looking at yet another loan spell according to MARCA. The player has spent the past few seasons in Holland plying his trade in the Eredivise, however, his performances this season have really caught the eyes of many Madrid fans.
Having been named Vitesse’s player of the year and included in the Eredivisie team of the season, Ødegaard has shone consistently throughout the season. Leading the clubs assist charts with 12 and coming in second for goals with 9, Madrid fans have been dreaming at the prospect of seeing him in white next season. However, reports in Spain are suggesting the star will be sent out again as he does not feature in the plans of Zinedine Zidane.
It may come as a surprise for many Real Madrid fans that the decision not to utilise him has been made. His creative ability has been sensational this season, averaging the second highest key passes per 90 (3.6) in Holland behind only Hakim Ziyech, his dead ball ability and vision for finding pockets of space, many would have thought that the club would consider bringing him into the line-up. When considering the struggle for goals and creativity on the field, Ødegaard’s abilities seem like a welcome sight to the current Real Madrid side.
Per the report, the youngster is being mooted to join a side that is of higher stature than Vitesse and playing in Europe. The ideal locations for Ødegaard are either the Bundesliga or a return to the Spanish top flight.
With Vitesse still yet to play in Europa League play-off games against Utretch, Real Madrid will have to wait to meet the player and his entourage. Germany has been a solid proving ground for Real’s young talent in the past. The likes of Dani Carvajal, Achraf Hakimi and Jesus Vallejo have all seen themselves grow in the German top flight in spells out there.
With his contract coming to an end in 2021, Real Madrid will be keen to renew the players deal before sending him out for another loan. On his current deal, he would only have a year left and that could pose the concern of seeing him leave for a bargain price.
