After fours years on loan with three clubs, striker Raul de Tomas looks ready to contribute for Real Madrid and manager Zinedine Zidane. The lethal forward bagged 14 goals in 33 appearances with Rayo Vallecano this season and could be a key player for Real if another striker isn’t signed.

In two seasons on loan with Rayo, de Tomas was the one bright spark in front of goal the club had to offer. In the Segunda Division last year, it was thanks to R.D.T. the small club made it into La Liga.

However, there was not enough talent spread across the board and Rayo will now be heading back to the lower league despite R.D.T’s best efforts.

Slapping a €35 million price tag on the 24-year-old has certainly scared other teams away from making a move for him, but will Zidane and Los Blancos actually use Raul this season? There is one way I could see it happening.

If Real Madrid fails in its attempt to lure Luka Jovic over from Frankfurt, Raul de Tomas would work closely with Mariano Diaz to provide back up for the in form Karim Benzema. Otherwise, the club could be tempted to lower the asking price or loan him out for a fifth consecutive season.

de Tomas knows that his time to show his value to the Royal Whites is running out and he is ready to prove himself to his manager as he told Marca in a recent interview.

When asked if he is ready to play for Real Madrid and prove himself to Zizou, the striker emphatically replied,

"“[I looked up to] Zidane. He was my idol, even if he didn’t play in my position. I loved how he played, his class. As a forward I’ve always looked up to Cristiano Ronaldo, and Karim Benzema. There are a lot of players who you can look at to improve.”"

Raul de Tomas is great on the ball and can dribble through players much like The Big Benz tends to do. He is great from distance and can be crafty with volleying the ball when the situation is right.

There will be a battle between R.D.T. and Mariano during the preseason matches in the United States and in Germany as the two try to show the coaching staff who is more deserving of that backup spot.

Next. Remembering La Décima five years later. dark

This season is likely all she wrote for Raul de Tomas at Real Madrid if he can’t break into the first team. He technically been a member of the senior team since 2014, yet he has not made an appearance in a competitive match.

A €35 million price tag for a guy who has not played for your first team is obviously way too high, meaning there will be negotiations and a smaller fee agreed upon if he is indeed sold.

At least give the man a chance to prove himself Zizou!
