Following a disappointing campaign last season, the future of Welsh star Gareth Bale has been called into question. Struggling to make an impact in recent history, the Welshman has reportedly been excluded from Real Madrid’s future plans and the club may have finally found a suitor
According to a report from Spanish outlet MARCA, Gareth Bale’s former club, Tottenham Hotspur has made an offer to Real Madrid to bring the Welshman back to England. Per the report, Spurs would be willing to offer Real €50m-€60m to recapture the services of Bale, although, they aren’t willing to match his current wage.
The forward currently earns €17m per year in the Spanish capital – a figure that Spurs will only match half of per the report. Gareth signed a new deal with Real in 2016 which saw him given a significant pay-rise. Real are listening to the offer being made by Spurs and are reportedly taking the negotiations seriously, the report also states that the club will discuss the deal with the player.
Bale, who has struggled with injuries in his time, has also endured a less than steady relationship with current coach, Zinedine Zidane who returned to the club at the tail-end of last season. Upon his return, many felt that it would see the end of Bale’s tenure in the Spanish capital as the future of the player has been questioned ever since – despite the claims of his agent.
Whilst he has not endured the best of relationships with the fans as of late, the influence of Bale cannot be understated. Since signing for Real for a then world record €100m in 2013, the Welshman has had a hand in multiple big moments for the club, with 102 goals and 64 assists in his 231 games for the club, the Welshman has certainly helped the club in recent years.
However, on the flip-side, his injury record has made for tough reading for fans of the Welshman. As of January 2019, Bale has missed a total of 65 games (323 days total) with 18 different injuries suffered in his time at the club. A marvellous player on his day, the Welsh international has certainly had his moments but they are seemingly coming too inconsistently for the demanding fans of the Bernabeu. It will be interesting to see how things develop over the remaining weeks of the window.
