Real Madrid announced the finalization of Dani Ceballos’ move to Arsenal on loan earlier today and the club could still be dealing with other Premier League sides. Rumors are circulating that center back Jesús Vallejo could head to England for a year long loan as well.
Spanish center back Jesus Vallejo has had a tough time making a name for himself while with Real Madrid. Since joining the Spanish giants in 2015 from Real Zaragoza, Vallejo has managed just 19 appearances for Real and has played less than 1,000 minutes in La Liga over the last two seasons.
Remember, the young Spanish defender was with Eintracht Frankfurt on loan during the league winning 2016/2017 season. There, the center back delighted fans and his teammates making 27 total appearances and asserting himself as a force in the Bundesliga.
It is clear from his recent injury issues and little time on the pitch that Real Madrid should make up its mind and either loan him out this summer or sell him in January or after this season. Something drastic needs to change with Vallejo and that change might come in the form of a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
This could be exactly what Vallejo needs to break through and show his current club that he deserves consideration when Nacho Fernandez and captain Sergio Ramos step aside in a few years.
Against stout competition with a medium sized club, Real Madrid’s 22-year-old could throw his name into the competition with Eder Militao for that future starting role if he can get meaningful game time and play well.
Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo hinted that the club was in the market to sign more players, telling the media on Wednesday he was “totally confident” there would be some moves before the window closes.
Wolves currently have three options at center back – Conor Coady, Willy Bolly, and Ryan Bennett – so Vallejo could be considered that fourth guy to rotate through the lineup when Nuno Santo needs to rest some players.
Despite Nacho’s terrible play in the preseason thus far, it seems rather clear Zinedine Zidane prefers the utility, veteran defender over the injury-prone Vallejo. Both clubs and the player would clearly benefit from this move much like the Ceballos move to London.
We will have to wait and see if anything develops before the weekend. There are still a couple of weeks remaining before the competitive season kicks off – and with Wolverhampton trying to make a Europa League run – they could use all the depth they can get.
Vallejo looks poised to move to England which would leave Real Madrid with four center backs to use this season.
