No, Borja Mayoral will not be sold by Real Madrid. No, Borja Mayoral is not staying with the club this season. The Spanish striker will return to Levante on loan.

What is the deal with Real Madrid not wanting or being able to hang on to depth strikers? The club has already sold Raul de Tomas to SL Benfica, Mariano Diaz wants to leave for France, and now the club has confirmed that Mayoral will return to Levante for a second straight season on loan.

"“Real Madrid C. F. and Levante U. D. have reached an agreement over the loan of Borja Mayoral for the forthcoming season in a deal running until 30 June 2020.”"

There was never any doubt the 22-year-old would be leaving Madrid for this season, but the announcement of another loan deal is rather surprising. It was assumed by many that Mayoral would permanently join Levante or look to move elsewhere in Spain.

Sevilla was in the running for the player’s signature, but a loan move back to the club he was with last season seems to have been too enticing.

Making 29 appearances in La Liga during the 2018/2019 campaign, Borja managed just three goals and two assists playing just over 1,600 minutes. He managed that same goal total while with Real Madrid during the 2017/2018 season making 14 appearances and playing for just 338 minutes.

Despite his lack of goals in club competition, Mayoral tallied twice during Spain’s success at the U-21 European Championship and was the usually the starting striker. So, I think it is safe to say the Real Madrid board is on the fence right now with what exactly they want to do moving forward.

Karim Benzema has been with the club for a decade now and could be entering the last few years of his career. Luka Jovic looks poised to compete with Benz and fight for that starting spot as the number nine.

Therefore, Borja Mayoral will likely never been seen as more than a back up on a star-studded team like Real Madrid.

The striker seemed to enjoy his time at Levante enough to return for another season, leading me to believe this could become permanent a year from now when the loan is over. For everyone involved, this is probably the best move.

Maybe Florentino Perez didn’t receive any tempting offers which led to this move. Unless Borja Mayoral is in the running for the Golden Boot in Spain, he might never wear the white kit of Real Madrid aging.
