Real Madrid has seen yet another player leave the club and some fans may have forgotten about him. Brazilian Lucas Silva has agreed with the club to cancel his contract as he looks for a new club in Europe. Here are the details.
While he may not get much, if any, credit for his stay in Spain, it is a sad day for Real Madrid once again. After losing Keylor Navas to Paris Saint-Germain on Monday, the club announced that they had agreed with Silva to cancel his contract to allow him to look for a new team.
Lucas had been a member of the team since 2015 but only made nine appearances in total before dealing with health concerns and being sent on loan twice to Marseille and Brazilian club Cruziero.
His arrival at the club was very exciting having won midfielder of the year in the Campeonato Brasileiro in 2014 and Carlo Ancelotti at the helm. His exit will not be widely discussed as it is a bit embarrassing for both the player and club president Florentino Perez.
Not only did Silva contribute very little during his time in Madrid, the club also failed to get any payment in return for his departure. Now, Lucas Silva finds his footballing career at a crossroads.
Unlike with Navas’ departure, none of the Real Madrid players have posted on social media regarding the move, however, Silva did post to Instagram to thank the fans.
Who knows what will happen now with this player who can still help a team. He was a staple of the Cruziero lineup in his two years on loan there, so a return to Brazil could be in the cards. But, the player’s desire to remain in Europe could tempt Marseille to make a move to reacquire his services.
Regardless of what happens moving forward, we Madridistas would like to wish Lucas Silva nothing but the best wherever he ends up.
