Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos helped the Spanish national team to an important 2-1 win over Romania on Thursday as La Roja inch closer to qualifying for the Euro Championship next summer.
He may be a defender, but Sergio Ramos now finds himself level with Michel in 10th place on the Spanish all time scoring list. The center back scored the opening goal of the match tonight against Romania and could have had one or two more had it not been for a few heroic saves from Ciprian Tatarusanu.
Ramos has now tallied 21 times while representing his country and is now just two goals back of another Real Madrid legend, Alfredo Di Stefano.
Furthermore, Ramos is just one cap away from tying his former teammate Iker Casillas for the most caps in Spanish national team history. So, this next year could be one of the best for Sergio on the international level even though he has already won the Euro twice and the World Cup once.
Ramos wasn’t the only Real Madrid player making waves while on break from club duty. Midfielder Dani Ceballos started and played 76 minutes as a left winger and was crucial in setting up the second and deciding goal.
Ceballos was also the one who drew the penalty which Ramos expertly finished. Dani has been very impressive for Arsenal while on loan and he once again showed out on the international level and has probably given manager Zinedine Zidane even more to think about ahead of his return next summer.
Ceballos won’t get credit for setting up either goal, but his through ball to fullback Jordi Alba could not have been better as Paco Alcacer tucked home the easy cross from the FC Barcelona defender.

Ceballos’ brilliance coupled with some great defense from Ramos at the back should have Real Madrid fans feeling good about the future of the team. While Romania may not be the most stout team in the world, a showing like this deserves recognition.
Next up for the Spanish, a home match against the Faroe Islands on Sunday in Gijon. Keep a close eye on these two Real Madrid players.
