The summer transfer window officially closed this week, so it’s time to take a step back and grade how Real Madrid did.

Real Madrid have gone through some changes over the past few months after a disastrous campaign forced their hand in the transfer market. With many fans expecting a massive overhaul to the squad, Los Blancos instead looked at what they felt was mostly required.

Transfers In

Real Madrid began the transfer window in unbelievable fashion, as they decided to get their work done as quickly as possible before looking at which players have to leave the club. Rodrygo Goes officially joined the club after spending the previous season on loan, and Eder Militao was announced before the season even ended.

James Rodriguez returned to the club after his two-year loan with Bayern Munich ended with many expecting the Colombian to make a permanent transfer to another club. As time wore on, it seemed like the board decided it would be best to keep James at the club, as he will prove to be an asset to this team.

They then were able to secure the signing of the most sought-after striker on the market, as Luka Jovic joined from Eintracht Frankfurt. Later, Real landed the target that they have been chasing for approximately three years. Eden Hazard became their Galactico signing of the summer.

It didn’t stop there as Zidane wanted to strengthen the backline a little more and brought in Ferland Mendy from Lyon. The left-back will be in stiff competition with Marcelo this season.

Real Madrid have also been able to sign Japanese youngster Takefusa Kubo from FC Tokyo, and he showed glimpses of absolute brilliance over the preseason. Kubo has now gone to Real Mallorca to get some much-needed experience in La Liga.

On deadline day, Real Madrid made their only loan signing of the window, as they got Alphonse Areola from Paris Saint-Germain with the legendary Keylor Navas going the other way on a permanent deal.

Rodrygo Goes – Santos
Eder Militao – FC Porto
James Rodriguez – Bayern Munich
Luka Jovic – Eintracht Frankfurt
Eden Hazard – Chelsea
Ferland Mendy – Lyon

Overall Grade: A-

This was an extremely beneficial summer for Real Madrid. They have been quick and effective in the market. Florentino Perez is a master at negotiating and he got the players that are going to be vital to this team. The only worry through all this is when looking at the midfield position, but that would be something to get into when speaking about the departures from the team.
