Transfers Out
Things take a little bit of a negative turn when you look at the departures from the club over the summer. After Real Madrid went on a frenzy of signings, there was happiness and excitement in the fanbase.
Even though they knew a few players would be leaving, they didn’t know just what would happen as Real Madrid’s first announcement was the departure of Marcos Llorente to Atletico Madrid. This only meant that they would have someone else in mind to bring in, but that never happened. That leaves the defensive midfield spot a little empty with Casemiro being the only natural player there.
After that was finalized, Real Madrid announced some expected departures as Mateo Kovacic made his move to Chelsea permanent, while Raul de Tomas realized he won’t get much playing time and moved to Benfica. One of the breakout players of last season, Sergio Reguilon, was then shockingly moved on to Sevilla on loan, as Zidane decided to place his trust in Marcelo and Mendy for the season. Then, Martin Odegaard completed his loan to Real Sociedad.
Theo Hernandez, who arrived with a lot of potential but never really reached the heights that were expected of him, moved permanently to AC Milan while Zidane’s son Luka found himself going to Racing Santander in search for experience and first-team football on a one-year deal.
Judging from Zidane’s previous stint as manager, it was predicted that Dani Ceballos wouldn’t get a chance in the team, as his departure was announced to Arsenal on yet another loan. Jesus Vallejo went on loan to Wolves, with many expecting that he was going to be sold this summer. Borja Mayoral was another player Real Madrid were expected to sell, but he found himself heading to Levante for a second year on loan, and Andriy Lunin headed to Real Valladolid for a year loan after spending last season at Leganes.
Japanese sensation Takefusa Kubo was another player who had to leave for first-team football via a one-year loan at Real Mallorca, and Keylor Navas completed his permanent move to Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day.
Lucas Silva, who hasn’t been part of the team for a while now due to heart illness and being on loan in Brazil, saw his contract get terminated after deadline day.

There were many players who went out on loan, which means that they still potentially have a future at Real Madrid. The permanent transfer of Marcos Llorente really troubles me, especially since there was no replacement brought in, while we also let Dani Ceballos leave the club and therefore we are really thin in the midfield positions. This is something that could really hurt the club as the season wears on so let’s wait and see what Zidane has in mind.
Having said that, many players were able to secure their loans to clubs that will give them a lot of experience so it will extremely interesting to see how things play out next summer.
