As Reign FC compete in a rivalry match with the Portland Thorns, Real Madrid reportedly have interest in the Seattle club’s star player, Megan Rapinoe.

United States Women’s National Team left forward Megan Rapinoe is one of the most accomplished players in world football as a multi-time champion and the reigning Best FIFA Women’s Player. Rapinoe was also named the best player at the 2019 Women’s World Cup after also winning the tournament’s Golden Boot with the most goals cored.

Basically, Rapinoe is the biggest global star in the women’s game and a woman who has legitimately inspired countless people by taking a public stand against bigotry and a stand for equality. Specifically when it comes to pay for the USWNT.

Real Madrid’s women’s team, CD Tacon for now, are currently taking their lumps in their first season in the Spanish top flight. They have signed a few stars in Kosovare Asllani, Chioma Ubogagu, and Sofia Jakobsson in attack, but they reportedly have their eyes on arguably the biggest possible name in Rapinoe.

According to a report from AS, Real Madrid took notice of Rapinoe’s kind words for Spanish football and FC Barcelona, including her words speculating that she could finish her playing career in Spain.

Tacon lost 9-1 to Barca in their season opener, as Barca have one of the best teams in the women’s game in the entire world. The same can be said for Real’s other rivals, Atletico Madrid. So while Tacon have some talented players, they are currently 14th in Liga Iberdrola and need to put in a lot of work to get to their rivals, especially after starting their investment in women’s football so late.

Florentino Perez wants to finally take women’s football seriously, and, thus, Real are reportedly not ruling out the possibility of making Rapinoe a Galactica.

Of course, Tacon already have plenty of attacking talent. Not only did they sign Asllani, Jakobsson, and Ubogagu, but they also have striker Jessica Martinez capable of scoring goals. Rapinoe’s passing ability, leadership, technical quality, and set pieces would set her apart, as she’s one of the best assist providers in the world.

However, Real might be better off targeting superstar players in center midfield and defense, in addition to acquiring one more attacking player, preferably a striker. Rapinoe, even at 34, is world class, but it is true that Tacon’s best players are their wingers in Jakobsson and Ubogagu.

Still, Rapinoe is so good that if she’s interested in signing, Real Madrid would be lucky to have someone with her caliber of talent and intangibles. They could use a leader like her and could even transition her from left wing to a different position, if that is necessary.

Regardless, it’s exciting to speculate who else could be coming to Tacon, because Real Madrid’s women’s team is still developing before its big change in 2020-2021.
