1. Luka Modric’s insane goal

Luka Modric looked sharp as a substitute in Real Madrid’s 0-0 draw with rivals Atletico Madrid at the Wanda last week, but he had a rough outing on Tuesday in the Champions League. Although he started the game against Club Brugge brightly, Modric looked gassed by the second half after making a woeful mistake in the first 45 to gift Brugge their second goal.

It’s safe to say that the Ballon d’Or holder more than atoned for his mistake, which was far from the only egregious error made by a Real player in that match against Brugge, on Saturday vs. Granada.

Modric was composed on the ball as Toni Kroos’s early injury replacement, but all of his nice passing and skillful dribbling were mere footnotes to his goal in the 61st minute.

The Croatian collected a pass from Hazard and took little time before firing an absolute screamer into the top left-hand corner of Rui Silva’s goal. Not even three goalkeepers could have kept this shot out, as the power and accuracy on it could make this goal the best longshot of La Liga when the 2019-2020 campaign is all said and done.

It was a magical moment by a magical player. Modric remains one of the most technically gifted and well-rounded center midfielders in world football, and he is determined to show that his 2018-2019 campaign was just a blip on the radar. Even at the age of 34, Modric can provide value to Real Madrid, even if his age means that his minutes need to be managed more carefully by Zidane.
