Real Madrid superstar Eden Hazard got on the scoring sheet over the weekend in a 4-2 win over Granada, but he’s still reportedly getting used to the increased media scrutiny that comes with playing for a powerhouse in La Liga.

Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid with a weight of expectation after being purchased for over 100 million euros from Chelsea, and while it took him some time to get his first goal in a White shirt, he has shown the quality that made him one of the world’s biggest superstars.

On Matchday 8 against Granada, Hazard grabbed his first goal and his first assist, with the goal being a delightful chip over Rui Silva from a hard-fought ball recovery by rising star midfielder Fede Valverde.

Hazard has slowly grown into his role on the left side of Real’s attack, linking up with striker Karim Benzema. The Belgian forward has been roaming around a little more, and he’s also shown a willingness to track back when the matchup calls for it, specifically against top La Liga clubs Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.

He’s also growing into the spotlight in Madrid, as playing for one of the top clubs in Spain comes with a special level of pressure. It’s one that Hazard himself spoke about, noting the difference between playing for Real and Chelsea.

According to a report from HLN.be, Hazard has been “overwhelmed” by the scrutiny, particularly the frequent coverage of opinions on talk shows.

Quote via Sport Witness:

"“The fact that Spanish TV channels and radio stations almost spit around the clock spilling an overdose of opinions has overwhelmed him. In London things never assumed such proportions.”"

Perhaps this is concerning to Real Madrid fans, but I would just see it as a case of Hazard having to adapt to a different environment. Unfortunately, the scrutiny comes with the territory when playing for Los Blancos, and the key is for Hazard to find coping strategies. It’s hard to ignore the noise or channel that energy positively, but hopefully fans can help by being understanding and easing their own expectations, which are often extremely unrealistic.

Being supportive is crucial, and that goes for the club as well. They need to have Hazard’s back and work with him to protect the player from harsh criticism, which is something they’ve honestly failed to do with some of their players, namely Gareth Bale in 2019.

Hazard is in good form after his excellent performance vs. Granada, and Real fans will be excited to see what else the playmaking winger can do this campaign.
