Real Madrid have been linked to Christian Eriksen for several months, but should Florentino Perez actually purchase the Tottenham playmaker?

Tottenham want to get anything they can for Christian Eriksen, whose contract expires at the end of the 2019-2020 campaign. Spurs have done their best to try and re-sign Eriksen, but he’s shown little interest in staying in London. And even if he had some interest in signing a new deal at the start of the season, Tottenham’s recent struggles and the speculation surrounding manager Mauricio Pochettino surely hasn’t helped change his mind.

Eriksen is one of the best chance creators in Europe, and his set pieces can be especially devastating. The Denmark international’s cleverness on the ball masks some of his deficiencies as an attacking player, and while he can play at a number of positions, the only one he truly excels at is attacking midfielder.

That also happens to be the position where Real Madrid have a glut of talent, including the resurgent James Rodriguez.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the pros and cons of signing Eriksen, whose class isn’t in doubt but whose overall fit with Los Blancos may be harder to see. The issue of “fit” becomes more important to examine both in the context of Real’s other needs in midfield and the other midfielders who could be available in summer 2020.
