Winter transfer rumors are already beginning to swirl, so let’s take a look at how Real Madrid’s summer signings have done through the first eight matchdays of the 2019-2020 La Liga campaign.
After approximately two months of La Liga action, Real Madrid currently sit atop the table, though their spot will be challenged in the coming weeks by second-place rivals Barcelona. A trip to Camp Nou beckons at the end of October, sandwiched in between games against relegation sides Mallorca and Leganes.
Real Madrid have struggled in the Champions League with just one point in two games, so eyes will also be peeled closely on their Oct. 22 fixture against Galatasaray. But despite Real’s struggles in European competition, they’ve been so assured domestically, especially in their last five fixtures, that their start to Zinedine Zidane’s second stint as manager should be viewed as a success.
Given that Real spent over 300 million euros on summer upgrades, their success shouldn’t be a surprise. They look like a much stronger side than the team that finished just third in La Liga last season. But because they have so many new faces – namely superstar left winger Eden Hazard – patience has also been a huge key. For a team with as much pressure to perform as Real, patience can be the most difficult virtue to come by.
All of Real’s new signings have shown value in some way, but how do they rate after a few weeks of action? Let’s take a closer look.
