Karim Benzema vs. Levante

Real Madrid scored three goals for the first time this season on Matchday 4 against Levante, and Karim Benzema was the showman with a brace. Benzema’s brace proved to be crucial in Los Blancos holding on for all three points, as Levante and Madrid loanee Borja Mayoral mounted a furious comeback in the second half, pouncing on a pair of defensive errors.

Benzema has scored six goals in seven La Liga appearances this season, but this may have been his finest display. He was impossible to defend, as Levante could not track him in the final third. The 20-goal striker took a whopping seven shots in this game, as his confidence was brimming from start to finish.

Known for his link-up play, Benzema combined nicely with Eden Hazard when the latter made his La Liga debut, impressing in a 30-minute cameo. But this game was all about Benzema’s lethal finishing in front of goal. Real Madrid fans will hope for more braces from Benzema, who could be the deciding factor against Barcelona on Oct. 26.

He also completed over 85% of his passes, per WhoScored.com, capping off a streak of four games to start the season in which his passing completion percentage never dropped below 85.0%. It’s noteworthy that his 39 passes in that contest remain his season high in league play.
