Real Madrid seemed to have an impossible time finding a suitable landing spot for disgruntled forward Gareth Bale, but Bale’s former club Tottenham and Real’s former manager Jose Mourinho could be receptive to a move.
Gareth Bale hasn’t been at his sparkling best for Real Madrid in 2019-2020, but his performances for club and country have been at a high enough level that teams around Europe should be interested in acquiring the 30-year-old.
Based on Bale’s recent actions, he does not seem to want to stick around in Madrid after reportedly resisting a summer transfer away from the Bernabeu. While Bale will still get his playing time if he’s fit in the squad on the back of his talent, Real clearly don’t have spot for him beyond 2020; the right wing position is Rodrygo’s to own in the future.
Therefore, Real Madrid and Bale are interested in a transfer, preferably sooner rather than later. A move could be coming in the winter if the right party is found, and while that seemed to be difficult at one point, a recent managerial shakeup could offer an ideal destination for the Wales international.
According to a report from Marco Ruiz of AS, Jose Mourinho has eyes on Bale as the new manager of Tottenham, as he was shockingly named Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement in North London. Mourinho and Pochettino had previously been linked to the Real Madrid job, but the team’s recent strong display have confirmed that Zinedine Zidane isn’t going anywhere.
Spurs clearly need more talent at every level of their squad, as Daniel Levy’s failure to invest this summer after a surprise Champions League Final finish essentially doomed Pochettino. Mourinho will not allow the same fate to befall him, which is why a reunion with a Tottenham superstar of the past could make sense.
Bale is a well-rounded winger who can score goals, work hard to create chances, sear defenses with his pace, and play the type of physical defensive game that Mourinho craves from his wingers. Per AS, Mourinho even had eyes on Bale as an ideal veteran player for his system who could benefit from a resurgence under the former Madrid manager.
Tottenham should have the money to make a move happen, and while it’s more likely for a deal to take place next summer, this is a development worth monitoring closely. At least on paper, Spurs look like the best opportunity for Bale to return to world-class status and for Real to get a legitimate offer.
