Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has been in sensational form this season, and it’s hard to envision Real Sociedad’s defense having any answers for one of Europe’s best forwards.
Karim Benzema has scored nine goals in 11 games for Real Madrid this season in La Liga, making him the top scorer in the league this season. There isn’t a No. 9 in the league that is on Benzema’s level, because he is also adept at creating chances for others, in addition to being Real’s primary goal-scoring threat.
Currently, Benzema is on back-to-back braces. First, he scored twice against Galatasaray in the Champions League, putting in a dominant performance alongside “perfect” hat trick hero Rodrygo in a 6-0 win. He also had an assist in the win.
Then, Benzema scored twice in a 4-0 win over Eibar, setting up his first goal with some wonderful dribbling into the penalty box.
There used to be criticism that Benzema did not score enough in big games, but between his lone goal in the 1-0 win over Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan in late September and his dominance against Galatasaray, Benz is working towards destroying this narrative. And the notion that he doesn’t score enough to be a world-class striker has also been thoroughly disproved this season.
Saturday’s clash against Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu is another big game for Los Blancos. Therefore, it’s another opportunity for Benzema to have a monster performance against Champions League-caliber competition. (Sociedad currently sit in fourth place and have an abundance of talent, including Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard.)
The question is, could Benzema record a third straight brace? He’s on ridiculous form right now, even considering the great form he’s in this season. Benzema tore Galatasaray and Eibar to bits, and while Sociedad have better players like Diego Llorente and Nacho Monreal in their back four, they are more known for their attacking prowess.
Real Madrid have been at another level over their past five games, running a streak of clean sheets and recently finding a rich vein of scoring form in front of goal.
Benzema continues to be the most key player to Real’s attack, and with Eden Hazard getting back to his superstar status, the connection between the superstar forwards has been lethal. This makes it more likely for Benzema to have another massive performance on Matchday 14, and Sociedad should definitely worry about another two-goal display from the 31-year-old striker.
