CM Toni Kroos

Germany international Toni Kroos is deserving of all the effusive praise in the world for his play this season, and he added another world-class performance on this day. Kroos, per WhoScored.com, recorded a jaw-dropping seven key passes with a near-perfect pass completion percentage of 98.1% in his return to the starting lineup after receiving some rest on Saturday against Real Sociedad.

Kroos added a pair of shots on target, and he continues to be dangerous from distance. Keylor Navas was game to stop Kroos’ stinging strikes, but against a more ordinary goalkeeper, the former Bayern Munich man could have ended up with a brace.

In 2019-2020, Kroos’ passing has been at its best, because it’s been more incisive. The sky-high key passes are an indicator of how much he helps advance Real Madrid’s attacks, and his passing range against PSG was simply perfect.

It needed to be, too, because Real were going up against one of the world’s most dominant midfield trios in Marco Verratti, Marquinhos, and the sparkling Idrissa Gueye. All three of them bossed Kroos out of the game in September, but Kroos more than bounced back on Tuesday to continue his excellent form this season.
