Real Madrid: 5 things we are thankful for in 2019-2020
Eden Hazard’s superstardom
Real Madrid fans were critical of Eden Hazard’s performances when he first started with the club, since there was a weight of expectations on his shoulders after being a nine-figure transfer from Chelsea. Fans expected Hazard to immediately be a top-10 player in the world for Real, so when he struggled with consistency in his first few games, some were quick to raise panic alarms.
But others noted that Hazard simply needed to adjust to his new teammates, build chemistry with Karim Benzema and either of his starting left backs, and go from there.
Hazard has since blossomed. He and Benzema have joined Lionel Messi as the most in-form players in La Liga this season, with Hazard’s displays over the last five league games being untouchable. He completed an astounding 10 dribbles against Real Sociedad in Madrid’s first game after the November break, while he produced rabonas and nutmeg backheels in a masterful performance as part of a 4-0 win over Eibar before the break.
The Belgian is currently dealing with a minor ankle injury, but he should be back before El Clasico. Hazard will give Real Madrid plenty of hope that the can defeat Barca and claim the top spot in La Liga to themselves, as they have a fleet-footed, agile superstar of their own who can start counterattacks and break enemy lines with ease.
He has indeed been the game-changer Madridistas begged for.
