It wasn’t pretty, but Real Madrid managed to pick up all three points at the Mendizorroza after holding their lead for eight minutes of stoppage time.

Although Real Madrid drew 2-2 to PSG and defeated Alaves 2-1, their performance at mid-week was much more encouraging than this gritty La Liga matchup on Saturday afternoon at the Mendizorroza.

However, these ugly wins are where title winners are made, and Real Madrid have to be commended for finding a way to win. They were lucky not to have allowed more than just the one penalty from Sergio Ramos’ ill-advised elbow, but Los Blancos were scrappy and won on a day when they didn’t look at their best.

The Mendizorroza is one of the toughest stadiums to play at in La Liga, especially since Alaves had only allowed two goals at home coming into this game. That Real equaled this in one game is impressive, even if they were lacking in their end product.

It was awesome to see Los Blancos pull out the victory on a chilly, rainy Saturday afternoon against a team that loves to play the roll of a spoiler, so this was more of a collective effort than one filled with brilliant individual performances.

Here are the full player ratings from a result that keeps them neck and neck with FC Barcelona, whom they will face on Dec. 18 at Camp Nou, in this thrilling La Liga title race.
