Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz rejected the opportunity to go out on loan this summer, and while he’s been unable to receive much playing time so far this season, he is still reportedly unwilling to leave during the winter period.
It has seemed likely that Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz would finally relent and agree to a loan deal in the winter. Brahim has only played 18 minutes across two substitute appearances this season for Los Blancos, meaning he’s been on the periphery of the squad.
Recent injuries to Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, and Lucas Vazquez could enable Brahim to play in upcoming fixtures against Espanyol and Club Brugge, but he is still behind Rodrygo, Vinicius Junior, and even Isco in the pecking order out wide. Once Bale and Hazard return from injuries, Brahim will once again be on the fringes of the squad.
No shortage of La Liga teams have been interested in acquiring Brahim on loan, who is a game-changing young talent and can help take almost any other team in the league to another level.
However, Cadena SER reports, via Managing Madrid’s Matt Wiltse, that Brahim will reject all loan offers just as he did in the summer.
His reasoning? As noble as you would expect it to be. Brahim wants to stay at Real Madrid for the remainder of the 2019-2020 campaign, believing his quality will shine through and that he will get an opportunity at playing time. He wants to compete.
Fellow Madrid forward Mariano Diaz said the same thing this summer, but it seems like he will exit on a two-year loan deal this winter. It’s a wise decision for Mariano, who has scored 20 goals in a season before and is too talented to sit on the bench with literally zero playing time. The same can be said for Brahim, but since he’s only 20 (Mariano is 26), he may feel less pressure to wait.
Per Cadena SER, Getafe, Alaves, Espanyol, Rayo Vallecano, and Sevilla have all approached Real and Brahim for a loan deal. Brahim would get regular playing time at just about all of these clubs, yet he would still prefer to stay with Los Blancos. He loves the club and sees them as the final destination point in his career, so the rejections make sense under that lens and due to his desire for competition.
Getafe and Alaves have been linked to Brahim by other outlets, so their interest may be particularly strong. Pretty much any La Liga club would be wise to show interest in Brahim, but it looks like he isn’t interested in going anywhere this winter.
Brahim certainly has the quality to make an impact, so while it seems like the odds are against him when looking at the attacking talent on the squad, all he needs is one shot to make an impression on Zinedine Zidane.
