Nacho and Odriozola are in

Alvaro Odriozola made the squad against Espanyol but did not play. Since Ferland Mendy will be suspended against Valencia, there’s a chance Real Madrid decide to use their successful set-up from October’s 4-2 win over Granada with Dani Carvajal at left back and Odriozola starting on the right side.

However, Zinedine Zidane needs to gauge how effective Odriozola will be. The young right back’s stock dropped after an awful performance against RCD Mallorca, but he does need game time in order for Zidane to see if he can be a realistic option against Valencia. Since he’s in the squad, it’s possible he plays against Valencia, even if it isn’t likely. Carvajal could also use the rest.

As for Nacho Fernandez, he returns to face Club Brugge after suffering a two-month knee injury the last time he faced Brugge in October. Nacho has been good this season defensively, mostly playing at left back when both Mendy and Marcelo were out with injuries in the Fall.

Nacho looks like a good bet to get some action at left back against Brugge, as Real will have to cope without a suspended Mendy and an injured Marcelo on Sunday against a Valencia side that is usually dangerous to Real.
