5. Toni Kroos
(Bayern Munich to Real Madrid – July 2014)

It’s almost impossible not to put the German machine in your top five transfers of the decade. Toni Kroos has been absolutely sensational since he signed and has been one of the best midfielders of his generation. Having joined Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014 for a shockingly low fee of 25 million euros, it was already clear from before he wore the famous white jersey that Real pulled the transfer of the summer at that bargain price.

During his time with Los Merengues, Kroos has cemented himself among the elite of European football while adding an impressive amount of trophies to his list. He was part of the team that won La Liga in 2016/2017 and the Spanish Super Cup in 2017/2018. He also won the UEFA Champions League with Real Madrid three times while winning the UEFA Super Cup three times. Kroos added four FIFA Club World Cups to his list, tool. The midfielder was also awarded Footballer of the Year in Germany in 2018.

Still at the club, Kroos has dramatically improved himself with the return of Zinedine Zidane after a very poor season that saw most of the players at the club fail to perform. This year, Kroos has continued to show that his time is not over as the 29-year-old consistently leads the midfield alongside Carlos Casemiro and either Luka Modric or Federico Valverde.

He may not be the most aesthetically pleasing player to watch but his impact in the team cannot be ignored. He sees the game differently than others and his passing rate is unmatched. There is no denying the impact he brings into the starting eleven and his consistency means that whoever the manager is, they know that he is someone that can be counted on.
