Real Madrid are back in business as they take on Getafe in La Liga for their first match of 2020. Here’s the predicted starting XI.

After finding themselves two points away from currently first-placed Barcelona, Real Madrid know that three points this weekend are vital before going off to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup later in the week.

Predicted Lineup:

Thibaut Courtois:

As expected, Thibaut Courtois will be in goal. The Belgian has been in sensational form over the past few months and he will want to continue this during the beginning of the new year. He could be vital against a Getafe side that like to go forward.

Dani Carvajal:

Another expected starter is Dani Carvajal. The right-back hasn’t really had the best year but now has the opportunity to put that behind him and start strongly. With the lack of competition in his spot at the moment, it could be easy for him to not go the extra mile but with Achraf Hakimi returning in six months, things could change quickly if he doesn’t end the season strongly.

Raphael Varane:

An absolute monster in defense and he will be required against Getafe. Raphael Varane has shown drastic improvement as the season went on someone that should be one of the first names on the team sheet.

Eder Militao:

Another player who has impressed whenever picked this season, Eder Militao will be predicted to start the match as Sergio Ramos is suspended for the game. The young Brazilian is someone that can be counted on but it will be interesting to see if Zidane picks him or Nacho for the starting spot.

Ferland Mendy:

With Marcelo still not at full fitness, Ferland Mendy should be the one chosen at left-back. The Frenchman arrived last summer and even though he has had some questionable moments, he has been reliable throughout most of his appearances and the game against Getafe isn’t expected to be different.

Carlos Casemiro:

The return of Carlos Casemiro after serving his suspension will be an important one. Zidane’s dependence on the Brazilian cannot be understated and he will surely be chosen to start on Saturday.

Toni Kroos:

The German machine. No one can deny his importance to the team and what he brings to the table regardless of the opposition. Toni Kroos needs to start on Saturday against a stubborn Getafe midfield. If anyone can make them uncomfortable and disrupt them, it’s Kroos.

Luka Modric:

It’s a hard choice between Luka Modric and Federico Valverde for the starting spot but I think Modric will be more influential against Getafe with Valverde taking the starting spot on Wednesday when Real Madrid play Valencia.

Rodrygo Goes:

A couple of ups and downs so far this season but Rodrygo is more mature than he seems to be and could be a vital inclusion against Getafe. The Brazilian is extremely impressive and it’ll be great to watch him take the pitch again.

Vinicius Junior:

I expect Vinicius to be the starter on the right flank. He has improved drastically and even though he is still facing some big problems with the final touch, nothing will help his finishing and decision-making as much as being on the pitch. He can cause damage against Getafe.

Karim Benzema:

Personally, I would pick Luka Jovic to start against Getafe but it’s extremely difficult to bench Karim Benzema who has been in absolute beast mode during every game he has played so far. Expect another masterclass from the French striker.
