LB Ferland Mendy

Ferland Mendy had a typical Ferland Mendy game. He was a stalwart defensively and didn’t let anyone slip past him but this game was more suited for someone like Marcelo who is way better on the ball as compared to the Frenchman. As good as Mendy was in defence, he was poor going forward except for a blistering run and a shot he took from tight angle straight at Jan Oblak.

Mendy will have to improve his crossing massively and will have to work more on the ball. Marcelo’s playing style suits more against Atletico as he’s press resistant and is much more calm on the ball as compared to Mendy. Mendy did a tremendous job but probably with Marcelo playing there would have been a better chance of winning the game within the regular time.

CB Raphael Varane

Raphael Varane is the most in form defender in the world at the moment. He didn’t put a foot wrong for the whole 120 minutes and kept Morata and Felix at bay for majority of the game. He was great on the ball and didn’t flutter under pressure from Atletico and had a great game overall.

Rating: 8 out of 10

CB Sergio Ramos

Sergio Ramos sealed the trophy with his penalty but was not at his very best. Ramos is one guy who Real Madrid look upto in big games like this and he never disappoints. Sergio Ramos has put in a perfect performance in every Champions League knockout game since 2014 and that is unreal consistency in big games.

Today he had lapses of concentration a few times though thankfully they didn’t cost Madrid much. He allowed Correa to sneak past him which led to a good chance for Atletico and also let Alvaro Morata slip past him who ended up taking a shot which was saved by Thibaut Courtois. Apart from these moments he was solid when called upon and did well to win the ball on many occasions and was great with his distribution as well.

Rating: 7 out of 10

RB Dani Carvajal

Dani Carvajal had a good game overall as he worked hard at both ends of the pitch for 120 minutes. He combined well on the right hand side with Modric and Fede Valverde time to time and helped progressing the play in the final third.

He did well defensively apart from that one instance where he could have done a bit better job at clearing the ball which led to Valverde’s red card. His link up play going forward was great but could have done a better job with his crosses tonight as final ball was lacking.
