Casemiro was the hero for Real Madrid on Matchweek 20, but the most buzzworthy play of the afternoon belongs to striker Luka Jovic for his assist on the defensive midfielder’s first goal of the afternoon.

Real Madrid found it difficult to break through the Sevilla defense in the first half, but they were able to put two goals past the away team in the second half to pick up a 2-1 win. Both goals came courtesy of Casemiro, who showed that he provides more than just world-class defensive work at the heart of Real’s midfield.

Although Casemiro’s second goal was nice enough – a well-taken header into the corner of the net from a Lucas Vazquez cross – his first goal is the one that is still on the minds of Madridistas.

Casemiro took the chance like a world-class striker, dinking a wonderful finish over the keeper into the far corner of the goal.

But the best part of Real’s first goal on Matchweek 20? It was the assist, provided by young striker Luka Jovic.

Check it out below:

Jovic found it difficult to get into the game, as Sevilla’s defense marked him tightly. He was also hurt by a complete lack of service, as wingers Vazquez and Rodrygo struggled mightily. Unfortunately, Jovic was subbed out at the same time Vinicius Junior was brought in, so he didn’t benefit from the 19-year-old’s injection of creativity.

But Jovic provided his own bit of genius. He had a backheel in the build-up to Gareth Bale’s first goal against Villarreal several months ago, bu this backheel assist was even better. Jovic left Sevilla’s defense for dead, finding the moment of magic to finally unlock Julen Lopetegui’s tough back four.

And Casemiro did the rest, calmly finishing like only a star can.

Much has been made of Jovic’s lack of goal-scoring output, but this assist is a prime example both of Jovic’s technical quality and his ability to make an impact beyond scoring goals. He’s a future star for Real Madrid and deserves plenty of praise for this assist.

As for Casemiro, what a player. He deserves all superlatives.
