Real Madrid, Tottenham met to discuss Gareth Bale deal
Tottenham have been the only big club in Europe consistently linked to Real Madrid right winger Gareth Bale over the past couple of months, but could a deal actually happen?
Before joining Real Madrid in a record-breaking move and eventually winning Champions League after Champions League with Los Blancos, Gareth Bale was Tottenham’s superstar. Bale is still held in high regard by many Spurs fans, and the club appears to have real interest in the Wales international.
While it is basically impossible for Bale to be transferred in January – nor would it be a wise move depth-wise for a Real team gunning for a fourth Champions League title under Zinedine Zidane – it is still possible for the 30-year-old to finally make a move this summer.
Per a report from Juan Sanz on El Chiringuito, as relayed by AS, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy met in Madrid to talk about the former Spur.
Levy reportedly asked Perez about Bale, as Tottenham have interest in reuniting with the pacy forward.
Although the report didn’t specify if Levy wants Bale in the winter or summer, it’s safe to assume this deal would be much more likely in the summer. All parties would have more time to negotiate, and a winter move could put Real in a bit of a bind. They are already set to loan right back Alvaro Odriozola to Bayern Munich and will likely loan Mariano Diaz soon. Brahim Diaz has also been mentioned in loan rumors for quite some time.
Therefore, Real need to keep their depth in mind, and they don’t have many options on the wing beyond Eden Hazard, Vinicius Juinior, Rodrygo, and Bale. And since Bale and Hazard have had injuries this season, Real need to keep all the quality they can at the forward positions. Selling Bale now would be a mistake.
But Bale doesn’t have much of a future with Real. He’s getting older while Real are getting younger, and the club has designs on signing Kylian Mbappe. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho seems to have interest in Bale’s skill-set, and he could be a steadying veteran presence. A change of scenery and a move back to London could serve Bale well, so keep an eye on more rumors linking him to Spurs as the months roll on.
