Real Madrid: Brahim Diaz scored a very good solo goal against Unionistas
Real Madrid faced Unionistas de Salamanca in their opening Copa del Rey fixture and walked away 3-1 winners in a bizarre game. Brahim Diaz’s late solo goal was a sight for sore eyes.
The Round of 32 Copa del Rey fixture between Real Madrid and Unionistas de Salamanca was, as you’d expect, hardly an exhibition in wonderful technical football. But it was yet another win for Zinedine Zidane and Los Blancos, who took care of business on the road in unideal pitch conditions (snow before the match).
There weren’t many highlight moments, as the match included one puzzling near-goal that served to show how unlucky Luka Jovic has been in his first season with Los Merengues. However, Madridistas did get to finish the game on a sweet note, as fan favorite Brahim Diaz showed his immense potential with a classy goal.
Brahim’s first goal of the match was ruled an own goal, but nobody can take away the run and finish for the second.

The 20-year-old burned Unionistas defense here, knifing through four players on the right side of the defense before cutting in and providing an inch-perfect finish to the far corner. He gave the keeper absolutely no chance, carving up the defense for a satisfying third goal to seal a 3-1 victory for Madrid.
All eyes will be on who Los Blancos face in the Round of 16, but, overall, this was a positive result. They got the win they needed, Brahim had a big game and showed why he’s earned plenty of minutes in the Copa del Rey this year, and James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale got their feet wet in their returns. Bale scored the opener in the 18th, while James had another positive performance, proving to Zidane that he has a spot in the squad.
Of course, the story is Brahim. He scored one goal, basically scored another, and was the key to victory in the first Copa del Rey fixture. Hopefully, there will be more goals to come for the talented Spanish forward.
