Real Madrid has been tracking down players under the age of 20 for a few years now and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of them stopping that same trend. Reports out of Spain indicate that Los Blancos have signed 19-year-old forward Hugo Vallejo from Malaga.

Could this be a sign of what’s to come in the transfer window? Is Brahim Diaz about to be loaned out? Will Gareth Bale be sold back to Tottenham?

After signing Brazilian attacking midfielder Reinier Jesus earlier this week, Real will close a deal with Malaga and Vallejo in the coming days, according to AS.

Hugo Claudio Vallejo Avilés comes from the quaint city of Granada just north of Malaga. The right winger trained with Granada’s youth academy team until he reached “cadet age” and then made the switch to Malaga.

After impressing with the Juvenil A team during the 2018/2019 campaign, Vallejo was promoted to the first team where he made three Segunda Division matches.

He was then expected to help guide the Blue and Whites back up to the top division this season, however, disputes over contract extension and wage have not only caused relations with the club to go south, but have also relegated the young Spaniard to a reserve role.

According to the reports, this move to Real Madrid was done in an effort to get the player off the club’s books and get past this bizarre disagreement.

Unlike Reinier, Hugo Vallejo will not join Los Blancos right away. Instead, he will join Deportivo la Coruña for the remainder of the season before returning to the Spanish capital and the Real Madrid Castilla squad in the summer.

This loan move is a tactical one as Vallejo has played so little this season – five appearances for 261 minutes – that he is likely a bit out of shape and needing match experience.

From what I have seen watching highlights, he is a great dribbler who loves to push forward and cross the ball to teammates. He may not be known for his finishing, but his ability to drive at the defense and set up his teammates cannot be overlooked.

This move from Real Madrid comes as a bit of surprise, but if the past couple of years are any indicator, Hugo Vallejo very well could be the next young star to light up the Santiago Bernabéu.

Welcome to the club, Hugo!
