Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic has received limited minutes this season behind Karim Benzema, but he has a few clubs across Europe eyeing him as a potential winter acquisition.

Signed for about 60 million euros from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, Luka Jovic has all the tools to become a world-class No. 9 for Real Madrid in the future if he is able to succeed Karim Benzema in the starting XI.

As Jovic’s backheel assist for Casemiro showed last weekend, he has the technical quality and creativity to go with an eye for goal that made him one of Europe’s top strikers while in the Bundesliga last season.

Jovic has been linked to clubs like Tottenham and AC Milan this season despite recently joining Real Madrid, and PSG are the latest club to be linked to the Serbia international.

More from The Real Champs

According to a report from Foot Mercato, via PSG Talk, PSG sporting director Leonardo is targeting Jovic and Islam Slimani as potential Edinson Cavani replacements.

Cavani could leave for Atletico Madrid by the end of the January transfer market, providing Diego Simeone with an upgrade over Alvaro Morata and the struggling Diego Costa. Plus, Cavani’s all-around skill-set could help young forward Joao Felix in front of goal.

If Cavani is sold, then Jovic and Slimani would be dream replacements. Slimani is currently loaned by Leicester to AS Monaco, where he’s been enjoying his football. A clinical, experienced striker, Slimani would be the more achievable of the two for Leonard to acquire.

While it’s wise for PSG to show interest in a 22-year-old striker with Jovic’s qualities in front of goal and underrated passing, it’s impossible to envision Real Madrid selling him. The two clubs have a great relationship, as exemplified by the calm nature of the Kylian Mbappe transfer story, but Los Blancos are unlikely to be interested in entertaining any offers for Jovic. After recently acquiring him, they want to see how he develops and wouldn’t want to sell him at anything less than a significant profit.

Jovic has the quality to be a great backup for Mauro Icardi at PSG, but don’t expect a deal to happen here.
