Real Madrid didn’t play their best football on Matchweek 21, but they deserved to pick up all three points in a difficult road contest against Real Valladolid.

FC Barcelona dropped all three points against Valencia, falling 2-0 at the Mestalla. And unlike previous weeks, Real Madrid finally took advantage of their arch rivals continued struggles.

Although it was another tight, cagey affair against a team playing all-out defense in front of their impassioned home supporters, Real Madrid deserved their three points. It took a late goal from a Toni Kroos corner, courtesy of Nacho Fernandez, to earn the win, but Real did have an early headed goal from Casemiro cancelled out by offsides via VAR.

Here are the full player ratings from the 1-0 victory, which sends Los Blancos to the top of the table, three points clear of La Blaugrana.

GK Thibaut Courtois

The Belgian goalkeeper didn’t have too much to do in this game, but he was composed on the ball and made one decisive clearance from a cross. Thibaut Courtois continues to inspire confidence with his play in between the sticks, and it’s safe to say he is back to being a world-class keeper who is beloved by all Real Madrid fans.
