Real Madrid will once again miss right winger Gareth Bale for Wednesday’s Copa del Rey Round of 16 clash with Real Zaragoza.

It has been a difficult 2019-2020 season for right winger Gareth Bale. The Real Madrid star got off to a hot start, scoring a brace against Villarreal and showing some quality against the likes of PSG and Granada, but injuries have prevented the Wales international from finding any sort of a rhythm.

For example, Bale returned to the lineup last week on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey Round of 32 matchup with Unionistas de Salamanca. In fact, Bale got back on the scoresheet, finding the back of the net for the opener in the 18th minute.

But then, injury risk. Bale twisted his ankle and had to be subbed off the pitch for young forward Brahim Diaz, who had a positive impact on the game with, essentially, two goals of his own.

The injury prevented Bale from playing in Sunday’s gritty 1-0 win over Real Valladolid at the Jose Zorrilla, and it now looks like he’ll miss this week’s Copa del Rey fixture.

MARCA report that Bale will “likely not” be fit to play in Wednesday’s game against Real Zaragoza due to his ankle injury. Although manager Zinedine Zidane called it a minor injury, he was always questionable to play in this game. Real like to be patient with injuries, and it’s best to exercise patience in Bale’s case, given all he’s been through this season in the injury front.

The 30-year-old winger could return for the upcoming weekend fixture at the Santiago Bernabeu against Atletico Madrid. Bale’s presence in the lineup would be especially welcomed by Real Madrid, since superstar left winger Eden Hazard will likely be held out of another game due to a more serious ankle injury. Hazard has been out since the PSG game in late November.
