Ferland Mendy

In my opinion, the French fullback has been the best signing from the summer thus far. Ferland Mendy’s role in the first team has been growing as he gets more comfortable and he has shown why the club splashed the cash to bring him in from Lyon.

Relegating Marcelo to a fringe starter and helping Thibaut Courtois immensely, things could not be going better for Mendy right now. He started in the Madrid Derby on Saturday – it was not in January I know – and continues to be chosen over Marcelo in big matches.

While the number 23 might not possess the same poise moving forward as the Brazilian left back, Ferland more than makes up for it with his intelligence and raw athleticism.

Next. Real Madrid can play it smart with Eden Hazard against Sociedad. dark

It was Mendy who was chosen in both matches of the Supercopa and he made nearly 10 appearances during January alone.

The end is coming sooner than expected for Marcelo all thanks to the stunning play from Ferland Mendy.
