LW Vinicius Junior

If Fede Valverde is the key to it all gelling together, then Vinicius Junior is the “match winner” for Real Madrid this Thursday. Vini was a game-changing half-time substitution against Atletico Madrid on Saturday, creating the winning goal with a wonderfully timed pass to Ferland Mendy, who assisted Karim Benzema.

Earlier in the season, Vinicius received criticism for his decision-making, which is kind of puzzling when looking at his actual play. His only issues were consistency with his technique, which seemed to be more about being overly anxious to make an impact. Now, Vinicius is in his element, brimming with confidence, and it shows in the way he attacks defenders head-on.

Moreover, Vinicius has made great passes on the wings, bringing others into play and weaving dangerous attacks for Los Blancos. Don’t be surprised if he has at least one assist against a Sociedad defense that can be picked apart rather easily.

CB Raphael Varane

One of the most in-form defenders in the world in 2020, Raphael Varane is already a club legend for Real Madrid. The 26-year-old is a rare talent at the center back position, and his quality on the ball has reached new heights in Zinedine Zidane‘s second stint as Los Merengues’ manager.

Varane’s calmness on the ball and passing in tight spaces will be crucial against a Sociedad team that loves to make opponents uncomfortable with their press. Sociedad are smart, efficient, and fast in the final third, with the quality in front of goal to capitalize on the slightest of mistakes.

Expect Varane to be tested frequently, but also expect the France captain to stand tall to whatever Sociedad throws at him. His level head and high football IQ will be keys to victory.
