Real Madrid traveled to Pamplona on Sunday to face Osasuna on Sunday afternoon, and after a nightmare start to the match, they fought back brilliantly to retake the lead.

It took only 14 minutes for Osasuna to score the opening goal at El Sadar against a Real Madrid team reeling from a Copa del Rey loss to Real Sociedad. The goal, which came from a diving header on a corner, had been coming, as Osasuna had consistently threatened Los Blancos defensively.

But the league leaders responded perfectly after Unai Garcia‘s opener. Isco started to take on more responsibility, running the show in the first half with some great passes, including teasing balls for Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema that were wasted.

The Spain international, though, didn’t waste his opportunity to score, volleying cleanly to level the scoring. A few minutes later, Dani Carvajal‘s inventive shot from the right flank forced a save, leading to a corner that Casemiro used to set up captain Sergio Ramos for the second.

Real Madrid then dominated the second half, scoring two late goals to put the game to bed 4-1 in a comprehensive display in which they looked like champions.

Here are the full player ratings for Los Merengues.

GK Thibaut Courtois

He made a wonderful save early in the match to keep the score at 0-0, so this game could have been a lot different without him. Osasuna’s goal gave Courtois no chance, but the keeper’s save gave the rest of his team a chance to make a comeback.

Better yet, Courtois was confident on the ball when Osasuna were pressing, and his handling was impeccable. He made zero mistakes in a game in which Osasuna were pushing for the team to make one crucial error. Courtois is as safe as they come.
