Despite all he’s given to the club, it’s time for Real Madrid and Gareth Bale to go their separate ways after 2019-2020.

“He loves Real Madrid, no matter what you say” were the words by Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett to AS during an exclusive interview where Gareth Bale was expectedly a focus in many of the questions. Unfortunately, it seems like this love isn’t enough as all other signs from the player seem to show otherwise.

As a massive fan of the Welshman, it hurts to write something like this. It hurts to see that the player who is actually one of my favorites at the club I support not be able to perform as well as we all know that he can. Recent performances have shown that Bale simply does not have what it takes to perform consistently for the team and whenever he’s on the pitch or even on the stands, his body language fuels the fire for everyone that wants to see the back of him.

It’s easy to focus on the past and what Bale has helped the team win during his time at the club. With time, though, that becomes more challenging.

As Real Madrid fans, we have become accustomed to seeing the players give their absolute all during every second they spend on the pitch, whether they start or come in as a substitute. Not only that, but we have also (quite unhealthily) become used to seeing these same players come out with game-changing performances every single week. Even Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to escape criticism during his time with the club no matter how much he did during his time in Spain.

More from The Real Champs

In recent months, whenever Gareth Bale plays, he would usually start quite strong before slowly disappearing out of the game. Eventually, Zidane would take him off for another player who usually made his presence known right away.

So far this season, the forward has made a total of 16 appearances (four of which were off the bench) while he has scored three goals and contributed with two assists.

For a player who the team is depending on to bring the ball forward and add goals to his name, the numbers simply aren’t enough. With 354 minutes per goal, it’s clear to see that Bale cannot be depended on at Real Madrid.

As time goes on, it’s clear to see that even at 30-years-old, Bale may have the quality still but a change of atmosphere may be exactly what he needs.

During Barnett’s interview with AS, the agent admitted that Bale was close to moving to China before Real Madrid blocked the deal, while Zidane has changed course on his opinion on the Welshman by saying that he will be getting opportunities at the club and the manager is counting on him this season. Of course, it makes sense that the manager will count on him as he’s still a part of the team while many are hoping that we can see a change in fortune for the player.

As mentioned earlier, I am a fan of the player and I would love nothing more than to see him step up and come out with performances we all know he’s capable of from here until the end of the campaign but unfortunately, it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

The player may love Spain and he may love Real Madrid but there is something blocking him from bringing out that love to the public eye. You could say that the criticism from the fans have gotten the best of him but he has been here long enough to know that a couple good performances will slowly bring the fans back to his side.

What he or his agent say won’t make a big difference as the fans respond to the players that do their talking on the pitch. That was evident when he came on as a substitute against Paris Saint-Germain after the whole “Wales. Golf. Madrid” debacle and had a brilliant performance for Los Blancos.

We will definitely see more of Bale between now and the end of the season as he will be given more than enough chances to prove that he deserves to be at the club and can contribute as the fans expect him to.

However, the road back to the top is going to be a very long one and if is unable to reach the expected heights, then it may be best for both parties to go their separate ways this summer. The media will be going full throttle to ensure that it happens but it never came true in the end before. Maybe this summer, it will.
