Real Madrid vs. Manchester City Combined XI for Champions League
With just a few days to go before Real Madrid’s clash against Manchester City, we take a look at how these two teams would lineup if they became one.
The buzz is in the air once again with Real Madrid set to host Premier League title holders Manchester City. So, we decided to do something more on the fun side, but don’t worry, the match preview and all the other analysis you love from this page is available.
So let’s jump into it!
Defence
Thibaut Courtois
Dani Carvajal – Raphael Varane – Sergio Ramos – Marcelo
Does this defensive third seem a little biased? It sure does, but there’s a reason for that. Thibaut Courtois is a better keeper than Ederson and has proved it having kept two more clean sheets this season.
Taking a quick glance at the backline, these four defenders have been through thick and thin in Europe’s elite competition, and it’s their unique bond that led them to four titles in just five years. You can’t put a price tag on experience. As a unit Carvajal, Varane, Ramos and Marcelo possess great chemistry amongst themselves.
Both wingbacks move with great pace and creativity on their respective wings making it difficult for other teams to stunt the attack. Varane is a monster in the air who moves quickly and effortlessly while Ramos leads.
Midfield
Kevin De Bruyne – Casemiro – Toni Kroos
Starting off with Casemiro, the Brazilian has been key to Real Madrid’s success this season just as he has in seasons past. As the anchor of the midfield, he intercepts dangerous passes while helping cycle the ball through either flank when defences sit deep.
Surrounded by De Bruyne and Kroos, these two midfielders pull the strings for the respective teams and having them on the pitch together would be a nightmare of any opponent. With a higher number of chances created and the ability to score from distance, what more could you want?
Attack
Vinicius Jr. – Sergio Aguero – Bernardo Silva
My initial thought was to have Eden Hazard starting but now that he has injured that will have to change. Unfortunately, it is a City dominant front row, but they’ve earned it. Benzema hasn’t looked sharp as of late, while many of the other options available have been sub-par or not yet tested on such a big stage.
Vinicius is in his second season with Real and while he may not be a confirmed start for every game, he seems to thrive on the big stage. Blistering pace and a game IQ that has improved since he first started at Madrid would make him a solid option on the left.
Aguero and Silva are creative in their own right. Aguero is arguably a top striker in Europe while Silva doesn’t seem to get enough praise for his impact on the game. This of course though can be attributed to the fact that on paper City look great but have stumbled on several occasions in their domestic campaign.
