Real Madrid: Top 7 performances from 2-0 win over Barcelona
CAM Isco
The best attacking player on the pitch, Isco was extremely unlucky not to score twice. He had one curling effort saved brilliantly from Marc Andre ter Stegen, as not another keeper in the world would have been capable of robbing that top corner-bound effort. And then ter Stegen and Gerard Pique combined to clear Isco’s second goal-bound effort off the line.
Isco’s passing, creativity, and work rate were all exceptional, and he was Real Madrid’s best attacking player for the third straight game. It is truly a joy to watch Isco in this form, and he will undoubtedly be just as important in Real’s return fixture against Manchester City.
Per WhoScored.com, Isco completed 87.8 percent of his passes with three dribbles completed and three tackles. He is a complete player.
LB Marcelo
Many fans were shocked when Marcelo earned the start over Ferland Mendy, as the latter is known as a brick wall defensively and would have seemingly been necessary against Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann. There were worries that Marcelo would once again be a liability defensively and could cost Real against Barcelona.
Instead, Marcelo was a standout in El Clasico. He offered everything expected attacking-wise behind Vinicius Junior and was far from a liability defensively. In fact, he was a strength, even robbing Messi of a sure-fire goal with an incredible tackle.
Marcelo, like Carvajal, had three key passes and worked hard to create for others. He also completed two dribbles and drew two fouls. Defensively, the Brazil international had a pair of tackles and clearances, as well as an interception.
