Real Madrid has seen the breakout season young Norweigan striker Erling Braut Haaland is having and despite moving from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund in January, Los Blancos will eventually sign the clinical finisher.
Imagine a world where Real Madrid has Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Vinicius Junior as the forwards, Fede Valverde and Martin Ødegaard roaming the midfield, and Raphael Varane still stone-walling attackers on defense.
Pretty fantastic fantasy, right?
Well, that fantasy could become reality in just a few years. The Real Madrid board has not been shy when it comes to spending money in the transfer market – look at all the moves they made last summer – and will most likely continue to be active in the market with some key squad members now 30 years or older.
One man that could be brought in for an exorbitant amount of money is breakout player of the year, Erling Haaland. The 19-year-old has quickly made a name for himself thanks to the 10 goals he has scored in the Champions League in just seven appearances.
Add in his 16 goals in the Austrian league playing just 985 minutes and it is abundantly clear that this guy is the real deal.
The good news for Real Madrid fans is that even though Haaland recently signed a long-term deal with Dortmund, Erling’s father is keeping the dream of a move to Real Madrid alive with recent comments to the media.
Alf-Inge told AS, “We were linked to more than 100 teams, but it is true that the Spanish is a very good league for my son, with great teams.”
In the same conversation, Haaland’s father made a point to mention how close his son is to Real Madrid playmaker Martin Ødegaard thanks to the two spending time together on the Norweigan national team.
"“My son loves to play with Martin, he is a great footballer. They understand each other very well in the field.”"
Real Madrid will compete with rivals FC Barcelona, Manchester United, and several other European giants in the coming years for Erling’s signature, but don’t expect any developments here for another two or three years.
Since this is Haaland’s first true big club and he is only 19, there shouldn’t be a priority set on luring him away from the Signal Iduna Park. Unless another club comes along and makes a serious offer, all signs point to Los Blancos acquiring Haaland before he turns 24.
His current contract with Dortmund runs until the summer of 2024 and there will likely be a stunning release clause added onto the agreement before that time. Real Madrid should take things nice and slow and continue to monitor the striker to make totally sure he can maintain this high level of play.
