Mauro Icardi

In the prime of his career, 27-year-old striker Mauro Icardi is quietly enjoying an excellent season with PSG while on loan from Inter Milan. Icardi’s long-term future with Inter is non-existent, but his strong play this season in Ligue 1 should enable him to generate interest from clubs around Europe beyond just PSG.

The Argentina international has been one of the most lethal finishers in the world for years, and the difference between him and Edinson Cavani in front of goal is easy to see. Icardi has also become better at setting up teammates, with his vision and movement enabling him to become a more complete forward. Playing alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, Icardi’s ability to create has become a more important part of his game.

So far this season, Icardi has 12 goals and 2 assists in Ligue 1, as well as 5 goals in 6 Champions League appearances. The man is as clinical as they come and finishes whatever is put in front of him. There’s no nonsense in his game.

However, concerns about Icardi off the pitch and in the locker room will continue to worry some clubs, and Real Madrid will have to weigh that heavily. I highly doubt Los Blancos would want to sign Icardi, but since he’s playing so well and could come at a discount, the rumblings linking both parties cannot be ignored.
