Real Madrid and Ajax center midfielder Donny van de Beek reportedly have an agreement in place, but Manchester United seems ready to steal him away.

Donny van de Beek is one of the best young center midfielders in European football, and Real Madrid were in hot pursuit of the Ajax star last summer. During the 2019-2020 season, Real reportedly reached an agreement with both club and player on a 55 million euro transfer that would be in effect in the summer of 2020.

However, there’s no guarantee that van de Beek will join Real Madrid, even if there’s this current agreement in place

Per MARCA, a report in the Netherlands suggests Premier League giants Manchester United are trying to steal van de Beek away from Los Blancos by submitting a “last-ditch offer”.

United can only sign van de Beek, of course, if Real Madrid “renounce” their pre-agreed deal with the player.

But that could happen if van de Beek tells the club he does not wish to play for them and prefers to star for the Red Devils. That will take some convincing to do on United’s part, since the club are clearly not in the same place as Real in terms of competitiveness.

Things are looking on the up-and-up for United after the signing of former Real Madrid center attacking midfield target Bruno Fernandes, who looks like one of the best in the Premier League right now.

So that could help United sign van de Beek, in addition to offering a better wage package.

However, Real shouldn’t be worried. Van de Beek has been on their radar since last summer, and they only couldn’t sign him because of their inability to sell James Rodriguez.

They should have space in the midfield for van de Beek to get significant playing time next season, and the talented Ajax star could get time as a No. 8 or No. 10. Zinedine Zidane has used several midfield-heavy formations, which should also present opportunities for the 22-year-old captain.

In 2019-2020, van de Beek scored 8 goals with 5 assists in 23 appearances in the Dutch Eredivisie. He also scored twice and assisted once in five Champions League appearances after being a superstar in the competition in the 2018-2019 season.

Manchester United’s interest in van de Beek is worth keeping in mind closely over the coming months, but the decision should still be in Los Blancos’ hands due to the pre-agreement on a summer transfer.
