RW Gareth Bale

Wales international Gareth Bale stands out as the most likely player to leave Real Madrid this coming summer. Honestly, it would be a massive disappointment if Florentino Perez weren’t able to find a way to cut Bale loose.

I know that sounds like a harsh, callous statement, especially as it relates to a club legend. Make no mistake, Bale was once a top-five player in the world who accomplished a great deal with Real Madrid as a crucial part of several championship-winning sides.

However, Bale is making too much money and producing too little to warrant a spot on the club. Real tried to move him last summer, but they could find no suitors. So Zinedine Zidane decided to give Bale as many chances as he could to help the Wales star rehab his on-field value.

While Bale start the season brightly with a brace against Villarreal and a couple of other strong performances, injuries and backlash from fans ruined his season. Bale was not a real threat, did not look like a starting-quality player, and was dreadful in several games in the second half of the season.

Even if they have to give him away to Tottenham or Manchester United (or the MLS), Real Madrid need to cut ties with Bale. His salary is onerous, and it’s time for the star winger to get a fresh start somewhere else.
