The final midfielder who could realistically leave Real Madrid this summer is James Rodriguez. Like Luka Modric and Dani Ceballos, James is more than good enough to play for Los Blancos, but it seems like he’s the odd-man out in the eyes of Zinedine Zidane.

Along with Gareth Bale, James was rumored to be leaving the club last summer, but Real couldn’t find a suitor so soon after the player left Bayern Munich. Since some fans have short-term memories, they may have forgotten that James was one of Bayern’s best players under Carlo Ancelotti and was playing well at the beginning of Niko Kovac‘s spell, but Kovac soured on the player after an injury.

Once again, injuries derailed James’ season with Real in 2019-2020, but before they hit, he was easily the team’s best player at creating “big chances”. James is a technical wizard who excels in set pieces and is a creative influence who can help any team.

Because Real must clear space and are high on Isco, who showed his world-class talent by the end of the season after getting past his own injury woes, it seems like James could leave. It’s unclear if Real Madrid will get fair value for him, but James can flourish at the Santiago Bernabeu or elsewhere.
