Real Madrid: 3 reasons why Isco can be the guy
3. A versatile attacking weapon
Although Isco is at his best as a No. 10, operating as a central playmaker in the Real Madrid offense, he’s been highly effective over the years on the left or right against the right opponents. While Los Blancos do well with pace for their counterattack on the wing, Isco is a great inverted wide playmaker to take pressure off the opposite winger or support an overloading fullback.
Real Madrid will have Sergio Reguilon and Achraf Hakimi in the squad in 2020-2021, and both could benefit greatly from linking up with a cutting-inside Isco. Hakimi and Reguilon are two of the best attacking fullbacks on this planet, with Hakimi being the best right back in the Bundesliga last season and Reguilon the best overall fullback (sorry, Ferland Mendy and Dani Carvajal!) in La Liga.
Beyond that, Isco was excellent as a wide playmaker this season, especially in midfield-heavy formations. He absolutely roasted PSG in the first half of their November match, and he was too much for Valencia to handle in the Spanish Supercup.
Zinedine Zidane can deploy Isco to devastating effect on the left, right, or center. He is a mismatch-making machine who will be a headache for teams to gameplan for during games, as Zidane can manipulate situations on the pitch by using Isco slightly differently.
