It’s been tough the last several months for Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic since moving over from Germany. The Serbian international has struggled on the pitch and now, he is in trouble with the Serbian governments for not following quarantine rules.
Poor, poor Luka. The pressure on him has been intense since he signed for Real Madrid back in June 2019. After a fantastic season with Eintracht Frankfurt, Madridistas expected the Serbian to compete with Karim Benzema right away for the starting spot on the forward line.
Instead, Jovic has tallied just twice and has had a difficult time breaking into Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI.
Now, while clubs around Spain and fans around the world wait for the go-ahead to resume matches, Jovic could be in big trouble with the Serbian governments.
Just a few days ago, news broke that the Real Madrid number 18 not only broke the two week advised quarantine imposed by the club, but left the country to return to Serbia to see his girlfriend, Sofija Milosevic, who is pregnant.
It doesn’t look like Jovic disobeyed the rules laid out by Real Madrid and he was tested twice for the coronavirus and both came back negative.
While back in Belgrade, Jovic broke quarantine rules by leaving his residence to go to a pharmacy for medicine. “I broke the isolation because I was not aware of the rules. I know it is hard to believe, but it is true,” he told AS after the incident.
"“My ignorance was that I did not know how I should behave in isolation. Once again I insist that it was because of the conditions I came from.”"
If Jovic disobeys the orders from Serbian President Aleksander Vucic, he and Serie B midfielder Nikola Ninkovic could be arrested. The two are being mentioned by name because they are returning from the two countries with the highest mortality rates in the world where the virus has spread aggressively.
"“One of them [Ninkovic] is in a hotel and the other [Jovic] is in his apartment,” the President said. “If either of them leaves those places, they will be arrested. I think the two of them regret what they have done, but I’ll make it clear to them that people’s lives are much more important than their millions. Despite all that, we’re not going to crucify anyone.”"
Luka Jovic has already made several apologies for misunderstanding the guidelines during this time and is staying put it seems. He was filmed by his girlfriend working out earlier today and he likely has no plans to leave his residence again until everything clears up.
I think some disciplinary action should be taken by Real Madrid if it is discovered he left self-isolation in Spain before he was supposed to, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The problem is solely in his home nation of Serbia and he is on very thin ice at the moment.
Let’s hope the striker doesn’t end up in jail.
