It’s unclear how the 2019-2020 season will end, but if it never resumes again, here’s how Real Madrid’s defense, midfield, and attack would grade out.

Real Madrid enjoyed a successful 2019-2020 campaign under Zinedine Zidane, even if the season may have ended on a sour note with a loss to Real Betis that bumped Los Blancos back below FC Barcelona in the league table.

The reality is that Real consistently outplayed the best teams in the league in 2019-2020. They defeated Barça in March’s Clasico after performing better than their arch rivals in a 0-0 December draw at the Camp Nou. They also never allowed goals in three matches to Atletico Madrid, defeating their crosstown rivals in the Spanish Supercup finals.

Zidane had Los Merengues playing competitive football throughout the season. They suffered a few heavy defeats, including a 3-0 loss to PSG in September and a lifeless 1-0 loss to Mallorca in October. But when they did suffer disappointing losses, they immediately rebounded.

Real Madrid also overcame several consistent injuries, including two major injuries to their biggest summer acquisition and most talented player, Eden Hazard.

If the 2019-2020 season never picks back up again, Real can still view it as a successful first step in the Revolution. Here’s how each positional unit (defense, midfield, attack) would be graded.
