Real Madrid: Karim Benzema’s savage comments are justified
By Ben Sundock
Karim Benzema has always been a vocal player and he once again caught the attention of the footballing world with his comments on French teammate Oliver Giroud.
Supporters of the former Arsenal striker now Chelsea goalscorer have jumped on Real Madrid’s number nine after some comments he made on Instagram Live yesterday.
“You can’t confuse an F1 car with a go-kart and I’m being kind,” he said when asked about Giroud playing with the French national team in recent years by comedian Thomas N’Gijol. With no matches taking place and little to discuss in the way of breaking news, this remark made its way through the Twitter-sphere very quickly.
Fans were quick to point out that Benz has failed to appear for the national team since 2015 while Giroud has been a regular for the team since 2012 and of course was on the roster that won the World Cup in 2018.
Due to the backlash he received, Karim was forced to backtrack and clarify what he said.
In what to me seemed like an apology – although it was still somewhat of a slight – Karim Benzema said, “Some people only took away things about Giroud and Formula 1 [from the live broadcast], but they didn’t remark what I said about what he’d brought to the French national team.”
"“They only focused on that, on what I said about Formula 1 and karting, but it’s what I think and it’s the truth. Look, if I was asked about R9 (Ronaldo Nazario), then he would be the Formula 1 and I would be the kart. Short and simple.”"
While Giroud may boast that he has a World Cup title to his name, Karim is speaking the truth here. Oliver did not register a shot on target despite playing 546 minutes in Russia and struggled to make any impact whatsoever.
It was Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann who ran the show for manager Didier Deschamps and Giroud was simply a lineup filler. Giroud, in my eyes, has never been and will never be at the same level as Karim.
There are two reasons the Real Madrid striker is left out of the French national team time and again. It’s because of the peculiar blackmail case that involved Mathieu Valbuena in 2015 and Deschamps’ obvious disdain for the player.
Just looking at Benzema’s goalscoring record compared to Giroud clearly proves that the Real Madrid man is much, much better.
Oliver has failed to register more than five goals in league play since the 2016/2017 season while Benzema has scored five or more goals in league play every season since he joined Real Madrid way back in 2009.
Karim is right and everyone knows it. That is why there was such a big reaction to his statement.
