Real Madrid players, coaches, and staff will take salary cuts

Real Madrid announced on its website Wednesday morning that the captains of both the football and basketball teams had agreed to take salary cuts in order to make sure that all staff members would receive their salaries in full.
Though there are no football or basketball games taking place, Real Madrid as a club is big enough and financially stable enough to make it through these tumultuous times.
So much so, in fact, the club has offered up the Santiago Bernabéu as a place for health organizations to store medical supplies and better help those affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
To ensure that every non-sporting employee receives their full salaries and benefits, first-team captain Sergio Ramos and basketball captain Felipe Reyes have agreed that players, coaches, and staff will take a pay cut.
Unlike some other clubs that have been severely affected by the stoppage in play, Real Madrid has refused to furlough employees or reduce their pay.
Here is just a snippet of the statement on the Real Madrid official website:
"“The players and coaches of the football and basketball first teams of Real Madrid, led by their captains, together with the main directors of the different departments of the club have agreed to voluntarily reduce their remuneration for this year by between 10% and 20%, depending on the circumstances that may affect the closing of the current 2019/20 sports season.”“This decision, taken by players, coaches and employees, avoids traumatic measures that affect the rest of the workers, as well as contributing to the economic objectives of the entity in view of the decrease in income that it is suffering these months as a result of the suspension of competitions and the paralysis of a large part of its commercial activities.”"
While finishing the season remains uncertain, it is a generous move from president Florentino Perez and the players from both teams to help the club stay financially stable and make sure that everyone who helps the club is okay.
Hopefully, those on Twitter will not take shots at the Real Madrid players and make ignorant claims that giving up 10 to 20 percent of their salaries is “like nothing.”
They weren’t asked to do this. They volunteered to do it and we should be applauding their efforts to lighten the stress on those behind the scene workers and their families.
This is a generous gesture and shows just how much of a family the Real Madrid club has been and still is to everyone involved. Hala Madrid and stay safe out there everyone!
