ST Erling Haaland

If PSG forward Kylian Mbappe is the undoubted dream target for Real Madrid, then Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland is a quite comfortable second.

Haaland chose BVB in the winter transfer window over interest from Manchester United, knowing that the Black and Yellows would be the best possible move for his career in the short-term, given how good they are at showcasing young talent.

The Norway international has blown up in the Bundesliga to a level that nobody expected. He was legitimately the best striker in the world between January and March, scoring 9 goals in only 512 Bundesliga minutes and 2 goals in his 2 Champions League knockout stage appearances.

Dortmund will do whatever they can to resist selling Haaland this summer, but if Real Madrid push hard to sign the No. 9, they can get him. It would be best for Haaland’s career to stay in Dortmund and continue to reap the rewards of playing in the most attacking top-five league on a team filled with attacking talent, but with Achraf Hakimi and Jadon Sancho set to depart, his supporting cast won’t be nearly as brilliant.

Haaland would need to start over Karim Benzema in order to accept this deal, but there’s a way both players can co-exist, especially since Benzema isn’t an out-and-out striker like Haaland. The 19-year-old’s athletic ability and work ethic set him apart from his peers, and he has an eye for goal that can transform Real’s attack.
